Start here
Welcome to my midlife crisis.
Where I quit dying my hair, learned to use cannabis for medicine, and started showing up exactly as I am.
The story (the short-ish version)
Well, here we are.
Middle aged. The kids are grown and moved out, and it’s time to find out what’s next for this adventure called life.
I’ve spent my life caring and raising three incredible human beings with the help of my husban, Nathan. And while there most certainly are times when I long for the days where a kiss on the cheek or a long snuggle with a movie could fix almost everything, I’m proud of who these kids are becoming. And? I’m a little nervous of what do I become?
I was done. Done working open to close. Done fixing every issue in the store. Done putting my job before my family, before myself.

I tried a decent stint as a coffee shop manager, did that for about 10 years. But if you’ve ever worked in the customer service industry, you know what comes with being a manager. You’re accountable for aboslutely everything and everyone. High schoolers forgetting to ask off for prom? Yep, up to you to mend the schedule. Adults with sick kids at home? That’s now your problem. Balancing team member personalities? You. This person can only work 12-2:15 but only on days there’s a full moon. Yeah, figure that out…. I chose to step down from management after I was asked to work more weekends and Thanksgiving was coming up. I did the right thing and told my boss the holiday weekend was covered, with good people. Would it be okay if I took Saturday off for Thanksgiving to see my kids’ great grandma one last time. He said, “No. I need you here at the store.” My heart sank. I worked that weekend and she passed before I had another chance to see her. I was done. Done working open to close. Done fixing every issue in the store. Done putting my job before my family, before myself. So here I am. I’m a part-time barista and I love my little job. But there’s more to life than just your job, right? There has to be. And that’s what I’m here to find out. ~Kimmie

What you’ll find around here
Personal essays, midlife pivots, and the kind of humor that shows up with messy hair and tells the truth anyway.
If you’re new, start with a few favorites, then wander into the blog and see what hits. No perfection. No pretending. Just real life, written down.
A few quick things (so you know what you’re walking into)
Consider this the friendly orientation before you dive into the posts.
Is this blog actually funny, or are we talking “laugh-cry”?
Both. Sometimes it’s jokes. Sometimes it’s the kind of truth that sneaks up and punches you right in the feelings.
Do you talk about cannabis here?
Yep—honestly, responsibly, and as medicine. If that’s not your thing, you’ve been warned (with love).
Do you name your kids / share their business?
Nope. They’re grown, they’re awesome, and they deserve privacy. You’ll get the story without the receipts.
What should I read first?
Start with the posts that feel like you: midlife change, empty nest weirdness, work burnout, or the ones that make you snort-laugh in public.
Can I reply to something you wrote?
Please do. Use the contact page or email me—especially if something landed hard (or made you cackle).
Do you have a newsletter?
Not yet, but it’s on my “I swear I’m doing it” list. For now, follow along on the blog and check back for updates.
